I visit Montecatini every month, for many reasons, and my favorite fitness session is running to Montecatini Alto and back. The square in Montecatini Alto is wonderful and the famous “mangia e bevi” ice cream is a good and healthy choice.

We traveled to Montecatini Alto for dinner one evening via the funiculare after a day in Florence. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. There was lots of outdoor seating. What a charming place! If we come again, I would like to see this...More

We loved the ride up the mountain and walking the narrow streets. We stopped in the church and had a leisurely lunch. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the quaint restaurant, but it had blue checkered tablecloths. That day the Italia Fiat Club drove...More

We visited Montecatini Alto when we arrived in Montecatini Terme. We took to Funicular to Montecatini Alto (7 Euros RT). We had dinner in one of the restaurants. It was really good.

Take the cable car up to Montecatini Alta. (DO NOT DRIVE!) Roads in this medieval city are very narrow. Views are amazing. The cable car runs every half hour except from 1-2:30. Plan your time. Either eat lunch there or come down before the cable...More

I would say no we had one which was nice as we were able to get around easier. The town itself is fairly small and there are 2 train stations in town.

Hotel Da Vinci I suggest. Very well located with good staff and food. Professional price performance. Walking distance from the center and bath....also funicular easy to reach.
