Silvia, our guide, was amazing! Her English was flawless! She explained the whole process of making Marsala wine, the 3 main kinds, and what to pair them with. We then sampled them. She answered all our questions about the purchase and shipping, too. A great time was had by all! Thank you!

Florio is synonymous with Marsala wine and we drove down from Trapani for the tour. All slots on the website were fully booked, so our B&B host called them directly and secured a place for us to join an afternoon tour, which they obliged.

Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining and shared many interesting nuggets about the history of the family, the winery itself and their production. After walking around the cellars, we were able to taste 3 Marsala wines with differing levels of sweetness each paired with a biscuit or chocolate to enhance flavour. A very interesting experience in a place of history, though the 30€ fee seems a little steep especially if you buy a few bottles from the enoteca at the end.

I wasn’t aware this is a popular weekend at the Marsala wineries. I couldn’t find any reservation. I tried asking my hotel receptionist to help calling to make a reservation but she couldn’t connect with anyone.

I was about to give up and decided to try one last method - email (on a Fri afternoon 3:30p). Within minutes, I got an email from Noemi saying she could get me and my husband in the next day (Sat) at 10am.

I was super excited. The 1-hour tour was brief and sweet and we got our morning drink and ended up picking a bottle home. Too bad they don’t ship to US, but it’s all good.

In 1773, a shipwreck forced an English merchant called John Woodhouse to land at Marsala. Business dismissed the tempest : he sent 52 pipes (i.e. around 20.000 l.) of wine to Liverpool, adding some more alcohol to the barrels, well aware of the English sweet tooth for madera, sherry or port. Vincenzo Florio was the first Italian to try his luck, so well that his family was later invited to Queen Victoria's funeral. All that and much more told by an incredibly energetic 38 yr young Italian lady, both charming and ruthless. She knows... Impressive winery tour, with a final degustation of four different wines & more in small bowls (15€) and a dazzling boutique.

This was a fantastic tour! We went in the off-season so we had a private, English-speaking tour with Valentina. Valentina was wonderful. She was knowledgeable and fun. We learned all about the rich history of the family and how the wines are produced. At the end of the tour, we were able to taste 4 wines - a red, white and 2 Marsala wines. Plus, they paired each wine with a snack and it was interesting to learn how each paired snack altered the flavor of the wines. We loved the wines and pairings so much that we ended up buying 2 reds, 2 marsala wines and the tomato and caper pairing snacks to take home. I highly recommend this experience when visiting Marsala!!!

You can’t come this close to the home of Marsala wine and not visit the Cantine where it all happens. In the absence of any visible taxis at the station we walked the 15 minutes along some fairly hair-raising roads to the factory. We hadn’t pre-booked a tour but enquired at the gate and were given a slot later in the day. The tour was in English with a group of around 15 visitors and we were taken through the cellars where thousands of the huge barrels of Marsala wine were stored. The guide was very knowledgeable and gave us an informative overview of the history of the wine. We ended with a tasting session where we were given 4 generous sized glasses of wine - each with an accompanying snack. Probably best to leave the car at home as two of the wines were 19% proof! Naturally we exited via the gift shop where we were able to purchase very reasonably priced wines. Would definitely recommend.

After having been here before, on a work related and tailored group tour, I wanted to introduce my wife to the Cantina Florio. Booking was easy (and necessary) and I just called them ( +39) 0923 781 305 and on the same day booked an english speaking guided tour (mon-fri at 1000 or at 1600 - sat only at 10 am). We took the standard tour because of the kids (price 13 euro per adult, 5 euro per kid age 6-17, they get the four bitings and a glass of water). We had a good tour and an ok tasting. However, It was not a great success with the kids (understandably - as this is an adult activity).

The tour gives you a fine introduction to the history of Marsala and the company. The english can at times be a little hard to understand (and maybe too soft spoken). Just expirencing the sight and smells of the wine cellar is worth the trip, so don’t worry if you can not hear it all.

At the "standard tour" they serve one white wine, one red wine, a dry and a semi-dry Masala (each served with a tailored biting). The white wine was not cold, and to be honest, as we are very much into fortified wines (Port, Sherry, Masala etc.), we came here for the Masala experience and would therefore much rather have had four different Masalas as neither the white or red wine were to our liking.

Having previously tried an expanded food and wine dinner tour ( as a tailored evening event) with a large group of colleagues, I must say that this made the standard tour a little less exciting (the wife was happy though).

My recommendation would be that if you want the full experience - don’t bring kids and go for the “food and wine” or “Florio tasting lunch” tour, and almost as important - leave the car at home :-)

My wife and I visited Cantine Florio early June 2019 whilst staying in Marsala. We had not planned such a visit and I am so glad we did it. It was a great experience! I loved hearing the story of the Florio family and the story of the Marsala wine business, how it started and how it progressed. The visit to the wine cave was equally great and very informative. The guide was passionate about the subject and very competent. The tasting of Marsala wine was wonderful: we learnt a lot and we enjoyed the pairing with food. I recommend a visit to Cantine Florio to everyone staying in Marsala.

Joined the tour as part of a cycling trip. Started out a bit unenthusiastic as I didn't like Marsala wine, however ended up buying a bottle! The tour was interesting for the history of the wine, and the sheer size of the place and number of barrels of wine. The wine tasting at the end was excellent, with a white and red wine, plus 2 types of Marsala wine. Then wines were coupled with a food tasting to complement the wines. The hot fiery topping certainly brought out the flavour of the red to good effect. There is a little shop and the wines are a reasonable price, plus jars of the accompaniments, and also some recipes books. All in all a very enjoyable experience, and we cycled back from the tour to the hotel feeling very cheery.
