This is another impressive entrance to the town and this one is claimed to be the oldest. In its facade it has a statue of St Oronzo which is inteneded to belss those who enter the city.

Great place to start your visit to the old town, there's free street parking on the surrounding streets which is rare in Italy.

Walk through these gates and stroll among the crowds past churches, street vendors, cafes, pizzerias, snack bars, restaurants, shops. Mincle with the crowds, stop to enjoy an icecream or a snack. A sense of history as you walk in the present.

Oldest among the three still standing city gates. It is the most conveniently closed to the baroque sights in Lecce and plenty of bars/eateries in the streets around.

Maybe Porta Napoli is nicer. But Porta Rudiae has its atractions as well and it is worth walking up to there to have a look. In any case, walking around the historical centre of Lecce is always very, very nice. Make Porta Rudiae your objective...More
