Ferrara felt tired and the historic center was no different. Interesting architecture was masked by a run down feeling in many of the buildings. There did seem to be a lot of renovation underway.

Ferrara is a city that most people probably miss when they visit Italy. Fortunately, my Italian friend told me to check it out, and I just loved it! It's a beautiful town with a gorgeous historical centre. The architecture is lovely and there are quite...More

Ferrara is a simply exquisite place to spend a few days... the central area is so atmospheric and one can simply wander around for hours and find yet another alleyway to explore. You can't go to Ferrara and miss this...

Italy is famous for its medieval towns and every town has its own charm and highlights. Ferrara is no exception. Less well known as Venice, Florence or Siena, the "Centro Storico" of Ferrara offers a selection of impressive places. Cobble stoned streets, a medieval monastery...More

Ferrara's center is very well preserved. Here are the imposing cathedral and the exceptionally well-preserved medieval castle. There are also some very authentic streets left in the Middle Ages.

We drove up from Bologna for a change of scenery & we more than happy with the Centro Storico. It's not big but it has some nice buildings & plenty of cafes.

I was on a short day trip from Bologna by train. The train station and its surroundings are awful, so I went straight to the old town. Once inside the city walls all major streets are leading to the central square. Cars are banned and...More

Lovely compact old town centre. No wonder it is a World Heritage Site. Lots of quality buildings and narrow cobbled streets to see while people go about their everyday life. Well worth the short train trip from Bologna.
