We arranged for a one hour tour of the Abbey. The Abbey was destroyed and rebuilt 4 times (sieges, earthquake, allied bombing from WW II). The property is very large and the hour tour was a perfect length for us and our 3 teenagers. There...More

We only had heard that the abbey was completely demolished by air bombing during WW II and had seen it on war movies. But thanks to the protection of the art treasures before the battle broke out in this area and the painstaking restoration effort,...More

Completely rebuilt after the Allied bombing of February 1944. As you drive up the switchbacks you get an idea of how hard this mountain would have been to attack. Go also to the Polish cemetery not that far away.

I would highly recommend Anna for a private tour of the cassino war history. Her style was low key, she was good a picking up on the pace and she was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended. Paola

The way this abbey, totally destroyed during the 1944 war, was reconstructed stone by stone is amazing! You would never tell that the whole place underwent tremendous destruction unless you see the photos showing how the place looked like immediately after the war. Cassino is...More

It's a very long steep walk There are no footpaths and with a windy road and traffic I would not recommend it We didn't see anyone walk up there You could always catch a taxi one way and bus back
