A bit out of the way for most, we happened upon San Domenico on our way out of Arezzo. Not large nor ornate, it offers a brief, peaceful stop.

One of the many churches in Arezzo, this is one of the smaller ones. However, it has lots of character and less ornate decorations.

Not the reason to go to Arezzo but as long as you are there, why not visit this lovely church before or after St. Francis. Because near to the cenotaph is Piero della Francesca's Mary Magdalene (1460s). You can see a video of this church...More

This is a beautiful church set on a charming square in central Arezzo. It is decorated with innumerable early frescoes, many of which are in poor condition and others of which, like the magnificent Annunciation by Spinello Aretino, are placed so that they are virtually...More

Cortona features many piazzas, palazzos, churches and public buildings of the Romanesque style, some with Gothic features overlaid on top. At the crest of a hill overlooking the valley we chanced upon the 15th century primitive Church of San Domenico just outside the city walls,...More

This is a beautiful, simple church not far from the cathedral (duomo) in Arezzo. It is well worth searching out among the alleys and byways. The church stands on the edge of a peaceful square, and features 13th and 14th century artwork.

The exterior is in the austere medieval style. When you enter, the atmosphere is the same: serene, simple, peaceful, largely undecorated. The Cimabue crucifix is one of his masterpieces. Absolutely worth visiting this small church for the Cimabue.
