The enormous columns make for powerful architecture, meticulously restored, the details and proportions are so beautiful. Breathtaking temple, the sacredness of the place sings despite the hordes of tourists (many European!). Surely us moderns can't build any better... humbling and transcendent.
The Temple of Hercules is one of the seven temples in the valley of the temples at Agrigento. It was destroyed by an earthquake, but eight columns have been reconstructed. Since you're in the valley anyway, it's worth taking a look.
