We have spent a very nice morning with Les guiding us on the river, showing us plenty bird species and then sliding on the sand dunes with our kids (10-6-4 years old).
Les is making his own sand boards
And is very knowledgeable of the river environment.
Nice family adventure !!

We changed for an afternoon the cruise ship with the nice small excursion scooter of Les and Maggie. Les as a river captain has not only told us a lot about the rather lonely, beatiful area but also climbed with us up the dunes up to twelve stories high. beautiful weather and a great view, a super experience. Absolutely recommendable. And if you call in advance you get a cold beer and a cheese bite. Steffen

Our evening sunset River cruise was part of our full day tour of Addo National Park with Alan Tours. Captain Les provided us with lots of laughs along with informative knowledge about the local area and the wildlife. The climb to the top of the dunes to see the sunset was the highlight of the evening!!! A great evening after a fantastic day!

Les gave us a fantastic experience. Great communications before our trip with Les and his lovely wife. Such a friendly pair, and Les was very knowledgable of the area. We drove down in the morning from Addo Rest Camp (give yourself a few hours) - it was lovely to take a little break from Addo and see another part of the Park. The dunes were very impressive and the boarding was amazing fun! Les has made considerable effort to design and patent his excellent dune boards - these were incredibly safe and run extremely straight - you don’t need to control these other than to sit down and lean back and enjoy the ride! We went with our 4 year old who sat on a board with one of us and he loved it! Highly recommended!

Booked a trip with Les for a river cruise and sand sledding. Les was really knowledgeable and friendly and gave us the choice of dry and/or wet sand sledding after a beautiful cruise down the river. We opted for dry and had a fantastic time sledding down the dunes on his specially crafted sleds.

We all had a wonderful morning and would thoroughly recommend. Look forward to returning on our next visit to PE!

Even though we booked it very last minute, we had the opportunity to go sand sledding. Les and his wife are wonderful people and made sure we had the time of our lives! Everything was well organised and it is a very fun and safe activity. Also the cruise to the dunes itself is wonderful!

I recommand this activity to everyone!

The Addo Elephant national park indirectly owes its exsistance to the Sundays river and now on this river is an excellent facility in the shape of a well constructed, comfortable and spacious double decker river ferry. The Sundays river ferry is a wonderful way to complement your trip to this park. Right next to the southern ( Colchester) entrance to the park off the newly constructed N2 highway, one drives through the manicured gardens of Cannonville to board the ferry for an informative and relaxing cruise either up-stream through thick reed beds and tall sand banks both of which with a careful eye will produce spectacular bird watching as well as a glimpse of creatures such as the water monitor lizards ( Leguaan), Cape Clawless otter, Bushbuck and Kudu, if your lucky. On the downstream side towards the coast, One passes a number of homes built on the riverbank before entering an unusual landscape where aeolian ( winddriven) sanddunes reach right down into the water. Here there is an opportunity to get off the ferry and climb to the top of the tallest dune to feel the golden sand between your toes and to enjoy the incredible views over the dune fields and Algoa Bay.It is the start of the largest dune fields in the southern hemisphere. Les, your captain is both knowledgable and aware of your comfort and safty at all times. Hint: Combine this ferry trip with a day in Addo and enjoy the diversity this area has to offer.

A ride on the Sundays River with Les was a highlight of our visit to Colchester. We were able to board at the dock at our guest house, where we met our captain and began our relaxing ride. les told us various and sundry facts about the river, its watershed, its history, the local plants and birds, and tidbits about his life. Having owned a boat in the U.S. and having traversed many rivers with it in 5 different states, we were fascinated to make comparisons with what we were learning about an African river.
The big surprise, though, was when we took a turn toward the ocean and saw the spectacular sand dunes ahead. The closer we neared them, the larger they looked. The best was yet to come. Les anchored and we went ashore to attempt a climb to the top, which he made sure we accomplished. The view was magnificent, and the descent was fun, fun, fun! Les took charge of our camera to make sure we had mementos of our striding atop the dunes, and our fun descent. The only way to improve our experience was to have better weather. It didn't really matter. We had fun anyway!
