Had a wonderful time here as a family. Stayed in a great house with amazing view in Glen Drive. Some suggestions when planning your visit to the area:
1. Proud's Pizza truly serves great pizza. Don't be in a rush though.
2. Pop in at the beach bar. They have promotions every Friday, make sure you find out in advance.
3. The shop in Glen Drive is well stocked. Prices are a bit high though, so bring the majority of your groceries and beverages with.
4. If you need to stock up on supplies, a trip to Ballito is well worth it. For craft beer lovers, make sure you visit The Great Railroad Brewing Company. They have fantastic beer (especially the Czech Dark Pilsner, Irish Red and Ballito Belgian Ale).
For an amazing seafood lunch or dinner experience, Jack Salmon is the place to visit. Located in Tiffany's Shopping Centre, Salt Rock.
5. Dlinza Forest Reserve in Eshowe is well worth a visit for nature lovers. Except for the aerial boardwalk, make sure to explore the two hiking trails through the forest itself. Had the most memorable viewing of blue duiker. Will keep you busy for at least half a day.
6. Ushaka Marine World in Durban is a must, especially when traveling with children. Kept us busy for the majority of the day.
7. Some other reserves close by to explore; Harold Johnson and Amatikulu.
8. For the ladies, there is a hairdresser in town. Make sure to find out whether massages are available in advance too!

On the down side:
1. Not the greatest swimming beach, especially for small children.
2. The Raffia Restaurant's (situated at Lagoon Lodge) food is not great. The resort and restaurant was recently sold and renovations will start in December. Holding thumbs that it will turn out great.
3. Make sure you lock your valuables away (cell phones, laptops, ipads, etc) at night. Petty crime in the area can be a nonsense.

Busy enjoying a two week break for the first time at Zinkwasi. Beaches are awesome although sea can be rough. Main beach well looked after by the life guards and ski boat club does a great job with food and drinks. The town of Zinkwasi could do with a decent shop or supermarket.

The Ski boat Club is located on the beach, so no need to pack a cooler box for your day out, mostly bar menu to accompany cold ones.
The beach's Blue Flag status is in progress which assures a range of amenities are in place like clean water, ablutions, etc.
A beach for everyone, a swimming section with life guards, a surfing section, lagoon for children and a boat launch facility which is busy everyday, fabulous fish are caught off this beach, I have on occasion bargained for the odd surplus stock for my dinner at home.
Healthy and active waves gives an invigorating interaction in the surf.
I like it, cars protected with a 10- entrance fee to enter zone.
My favourite beach in short

We visited this beach on 2 different day trips, several years apart (most recently April 2024). This beach is very pretty, with lots of sand to walk around in. It does have quite a bit of use, hence some garbage is common as we strolled up and down the coastline.

Lots of fishermen, families, and people on holiday staying at local, small resorts, hotels and airbnb-type places.

Food/restaurant options are very slim. Bar/pizza place on the beach was closed the afternoon we went there, as was the other restaurant in the area - stopped by the grocery store of a panini that... Was not great.

I could imagine if we were staying at a resort, things would have been much better. But coming in for the day, this beach pales to others north (ie Cape Vidal) or south (ie Bollito).

Life savers made sure everyone was safe as the sea conditions was a bit rough. The beach is fairly clean but allot of plastic from the ocean gets carried in on the tides :(

We were informed about this beach by the host of the Chase Guest House where we were headed after a great time at ATKV in Natalia.. It is in a small town and just after the Sugar Bay camp.

We only spent about a couple of hours there as we were headed for Eshowe. All of us in the family love being close to the beach, play with the water, enjoy the waves touching our feet, write names and let the waves take it away, take a walk holding hands..

Very happy to have been there..

Situated about 82km from the City of Durban, Zinkwazi is far enough to be out of the city and close enough for an afternoon or day trip. The drive from Durban is enjoyment in itself you get to take in the verdant green undulating hills of the KwaZulu-Natal coastline offering tantalising occasional glimpses of the ocean as you drive north. Zinkwazi is a small little hamlet of upmarket homes that has very little commercial activity. There is one restaurant a short distance from the beach.

The beauty of Zinkwazi lies in the gorgeous vista of the curving bay that you come upon almost as surprise as you turn a curve. Unspoiled with a small bar where you can choose from a range of non-alcohol and alcoholic beverages, the location speaks to the charm of being away from the city's madness and crowds of people. Even on a Sunday in the middle of school holidays, there were hardly any people there. The KZN coastal waters are warm year round and the beach nice and sandy, so swimming is definitely an option.

The house we stayed in had 5 en-suite bedrooms. It was huge with entrance to a nearly private beach. Very quiet out of Season. Well equipped house with everything you need. Just bring your toothbrush and own food. The butler was great, cleaning the house when we were on the beach, washing the dishes etc. No effort and a fantastic stay!

The beach seems to go on forever and is very clean. We walked for kilometers in both directions of the main beach and you could still go further if you wish to. The main beach has a life guard on duty. Along the coast there are rock pools for the kids to explore in. And as a bonus there are two places to eat at - Proud's Pizza and the Ski Club. One of my favourite beaches in SA.

Gorgeous coastline with endless sand beach stretching either side if the central lagoon. Safe areas for swimming and a blue flag beach with life guard on duty.
Right in the face of the ocean, beautiful sub-tropical vegetation and two food options on the beach, make this destination well worth saying over at.
