Go early, there is a car park in the village free but it does quickly fill up. Buy you ticket from the shop as numbers are limited in the house. Good film at the start but after that you are on your own. I loved it and the views from the upper terrace in the garden are fantastic. Nice village to explore and a must for Outlander fans. Cafes and a pub. Lots of history well presented. There are a lot of steps so not suitable for all. Friendly staff.

A fab historic building. Scene setting short film to start. Information cards inside were so interesting, artifacts etc brilliant. Children's trail also just brilliant. Also a must for Outlander fans

Delightful palace in a delightful village! We loved our tour of the palace, and loved wandering around the streets of Culross. Don't miss the gardens in the back. Also a great stop for Outlander fans since this was the filming location for "Cranesmuir".

When the sun shines....the buildings and garden are magnificent.
Some work continues in the old kitchin.
Its not a full "tour" you walk at your own speed plenty tricky steps though.

Visited on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon on an Outlander tour that I had booked ages ago. It was extremely interesting - both the real and 'Outlander' history. The garden was very pretty too. Definitely recommend it if you like history or Outlander (or both!)

We visited this National Trust for Scotland amenity expecting a standard sort of mansion house, but found a fascinating place built on long gone industrial wealth.
There is limited entry per hour due to the fabric of the building so it would be worth booking ahead in the busy summer months, remember this is a Outlander set. We enjoyed the short film before our slot to tour the buildings it was very informative and set the context of the buildings story as told on the boards as you went through the rooms. The rooms are quite atmospheric and you can see why so many have been used in film.
The gardens located between the buildings are terraced and offer a wide range of plants and trees and will be spectacular in summer as they were starting to show colour when we visited. Great to see the whole surrounding area trying to be maintained and people still living in the houses. Visit here and see for yourselves i don't think you will be disappointed.

The rooms in the palace tend to be quite small. When I went, social distancing was still in place so I had to book a slot on arrival. I am not sure if this is the case normally, but suggest visitors check this in advance. There is a shop and toilets near the palace where tickets are bought and the bookings made.
A very nice cafe is attached to the Palace in the old stables. Here they serve a good selection of homemade pies, pastries and cakes, as well as excellent coffee. An outdoor covered seating area is available as well as toilets.
This is not a grand palace at all but a very nicely appointed Jacobean merchant's home. Apparently, sales particulars for the house in the nineteenth century had used a Gaelic word which looked like 'palace' so the buyer decided to describe it as such after he bought it.
Built around the time of James 1st (VI of Scotland), the original owner had been a friend of the king . Original Jacobean beds, some with their original hangings grace some of the rooms whilst others are set up to reflect dining or sitting areas using period furniture. The guides are excellent and certainly seem to enjoy chatting about some of the previous occupants.
The Palace is a like entering a time-warp as if the last 400 years hadn't happened.

Visited today. Interesting video to watch at the start and then a self guided tour through the palace. Very dark but excellent.
A couple of tricky spiral stairs with no handrails so be careful.
I felt it was a tad expensive.

You can just walk around the village but to get into the Castle you have to have a ticket.

Can one visit the garden only? Or is it required to visit the palace and then add on the garden? The cost for the garden is 3.50£ and of more interest to me than the palace which is 10.50£. Thank you.
