Just outside Banchory, Scolty Hill is easily recognisable by the iconic tower situated at the top. There are various walking routes, of varying steepness, to the top of the hill, signposted in brown, orange and violet. Check the information board at the start of the...More

How do you review a hill? As a teenager I was up here almost weekly, on my bike our on foot. No longer live in Banchory, so was great to be back, this time with the family and some friends. A 6 year old, a...More

Scolty may be a small hill, even by Scottish standards, but it makes up for lack of stature with bags of character, including a mixture of forest and moorland paths to the top, the obivous attraction of the summit tower, and great views over lower...More

I have visited Scolty several times and managed to go on a different walk each time. This time around there was a lot of ice underfoot, however we still made it to the top with our two cocker spaniels. On a cold but sunny day...More

Parking cost us £1.50, which is a small price to pay for the upkeep of the car park and paths to the top. We chose the less steep option on the way up and were rewarded with plenty of birds to watch (bullfinches, woodpecker, blue...More

This is set in the lovely forest at Scotty, just across the River Dee from Banchory. There are a variety of ways to climb the hill and it's a good idea to make it a circular walk. The walk to the top certainly stretches those...More

Estimated timings on the information board seem fairly accurate for the very unfit like us, we took about 50 mins from the car park to the tower via the steep path and stopped and looked about a fair bit. About 40 mins down the more...More
