Considering this is supposed to be a family friendly beach we were disappointed with the lack of a beach manager and the amount of dogs on the beach even though there are signs saying no dogs on the beach nobody takes any notice the beach is full of dog mess and trash the people who live there obviously don’t care

Large length of red sandy beach with traditional beach huts behind. Short walk from the harbour and pier

We live locally & visit this beach a lot! Beautiful Beach, green space & a small park. Amazing views across Torbay can be enjoyed from here. When the tide is low you can walk along the beach to Paignton.

Preston Sands is a long sea front, with lots of access to the beach. The beach has stepped areas on it, which are great for sitting on and the tide comes right up to them.
The seafront has lots of benches, and a long row of beach huts which are pretty to look at, with the green in behind. There is a kiosk about half way along which sells a good selection of basic hot food, drinks, snacks and ice cream.
We have always gone to Paignton Sands in the past but having discovered Preston Sands, we are now converted and spent this holiday there every day.
It is so relaxing to sit and watch the waves, and then go out and swim in them.
We passed toilets on our way in (30p but that seems the norm now!), and there are more further along the sea front.
I highly recommend Preston Sands.

No free toilets available at Preston sands, 4 little sentry boxes available for toilets among thousands of holiday makers on nice days, and the few sentry box toilets that are available have to be opened with a bank card they wont take cash, no thought of how disabled persons can reach these toilets, tried complaining to Torbay district council what a waste of time that was. Torbay council is in my opinion shameless, thousands of people spend a lot of money at Torbay, hundreds of people have beach huts that Torbay council receive a lot of money for and they still want to fleece the holiday makers for more money to use the loo, a lot of people refuse to pay for the loo and the results can be seen all around the area

Pleasant and relaxing setting and nice for walks. Viewed the ocean cruise ships anchored off the coast and the sea waters were lovely and calm

At the western end of Paignton this beach relies on the clean water and sand and not the arcades and activity parks etc.

Check out tide times first, then plan lovely walk up and down Paignton/Preston sands.
All level of course, and well resourced by such as fantastic Paignton Pier Chippie and Geo Park Cafe.
Great facilities for children too,

If your kids like crabbing, the captive lake at the north end of the beach is the best place to go. Walk a few metres south and it's a nice safe swimming beach with a gentle drop off.

are there any shops nearby

Yes, a ten to fifteen minute walk. Including a co-op, newsagent, a few fish & chip shop's, so plenty to choose from. Another five minutes along the road toward Paignton is a Tesco!
