Not the easiest of places to see and navigate. There is a map which is difficult to follow. Some exhibitions are free others you have to pay and we could not work out which was where or where the cafe was so we left.

We went in to see an exhibition on 10,000 years of Durham. Well explained, well laid out and interesting objects. Free and well worth a look round. Other temporary exhibitions are open from time to time.

Our current temporary exhibition is now open: Bodies of Evidence: How science unearthed Durham’s dark secret. The exhibition is open until the 7th October so hopefully you can see this if you are back to Durham before then. Hopefully see you again soon.

The brilliance of this exhibition lies in its brevity. Thoughtfully curated, it conveys the very essence of all that lies at the heart of the DLI and its lasting legacy in our region. Take your time and give every element your full attention, for everything...More

This place has been renovated since our last visit. Although they are changing displays at present there is the Archeology Museum upstairs which is good for 30 minutes and the interesting DLI room for another 10 or 15 maybe. The cafe at the rear looks...More

Very nice building and enjoyed looking at the two exhibits they have on at the moment. Staff were friendly and happy to help you. There is also a coffee shop but I didn’t go in but it looked very nice.

This is a quiet haven in the midst of this World Heritage site, adjacent to some of the leading exhibitions, including the Lindisfarne Gospels.

Two exhibitions one on archaeology and one on the Durham Light Infantry. The archaeology display wascunusual in that it was connected with the efforts of law abiding metal detectorists. The DLI display made up for the lost of the DLI museum.
