From Ancient Egypt to modern China, we are the only museum in the North of England devoted entirely to the art and archaeology of the great cultures of Northern Africa and Asia. The Oriental Museum is normally open Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, 12pm - 5pm.

A small place but big enough to spend at least a couple of hours in. Items are beautifully labelled and displayed. A small fee for such a lot to see and learn for both adults and children alike.

Fabulous little place near university buildings on outskirts of city, with free parking and very reasonable entry fee (£1.50 pp). This museum is one of Durhams Hidden Gems, part of me wants this to stay this way, so people keep away, but then that would stop people having the experience of this oriental gem
