Unless you're a student you can only visit via an organised tour that lasts an hour. The tour was informatie and the guide knew her stuff. This a beautiful building that is definitely worth a visit.

Visited on 01–11 and booked on the guided tour with a student called Rupert. He was very clearly spoken and enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the castle. Fantastic value for money and a fascinating story behind the castle. Well worth the visit!

I enjoyed the guided tour, which showed the courtyard, the Norman chapel, a different chapel, a gallery, a fancy staircase, and the ballroom. I suppose I thought that the tour would include more rooms and last longer, but the price is right for what it...More

The castle, the cathedral and the university sort of meld into the core of Durham's historic heritage site. The castle, of course, was interesting and you enter with a timed guide. Arrangements were made at the library entrance between the cathedral and the castle entrance....More
