This is the most recent statue in the market place and the most relevant. It's a memorial to the Durham Light Infantry and the only reminder of that regiment in the city now, since the idiots at Durham County Council decided to close the excellent...More

This is simply a statue commemorating the exploits of the Durham light infantry. I guess for many it represents a photo opportunity and it is an impressive feature in the beautiful market square. A more in depth look at the history of this division of...More

An imposing and evocative statue with a contemporary feel. If this impressive and thought-provoking figure inspires or intrigues you, then do also visit: - The dedicated DLI Chapel within Durham Cathedral. - The DLI Exxhibition currently in place at Palace Green Library.

Part of the history of the Durham area. A nice memorial. It is worth reading about the Durham Light infantry and their exploits prior to your visit. You will appreciate the memorial more.

A new memorial in the market place right in front of the indoor market. The memorial commemorates the Durham Light Infantry. Spend a few minutes taking in the information on the plaque.

This statue is located outside the entrance to the indoor market. It is a little small compared to the other memorial in the market place and is not as detailed as other similar memorials I have seen but very important to the City.

If you want to know about the DLI this is the place. A unique insight into the history of this regiment and very humbling as there are awards for brave actions to see.

This lovely memorial standing in the Market Place commemorates The Durham Light Infantry. Judging from the number of people photographing it, it is well known and liked. It was nice to see people avoiding walking in front of us taking a photo .

Send chills up and down when you see all the different battles the brave lads of this regiment were sent to over the years and how many failed to return

It has been closed for over a year now by DCC, much to the despair of many of the Durham residents. Some of the collections housed at Spennymoor and some at Durham Cathedral.
