The Rodwell Trail as it is locally known , runs from near the town centre to the causeway over to Portland. It is very "multi use" i.e walkers, dog walkers and cyclists...each have to remember to think about "the others". For example if you are...More

When Great Britain's once extensive railway network began to contract, in earnest, during the late 1950's and the early 1960's, it left large areas of the countryside without a passenger train service, but with lengths of disused trackbed that were ripe for conversion into foot...More

We thoroughly enjoyed the walk from Ferrybridge to Sandsfoot Castle where we then continued to Weymouth on the Coastal Path. Lots of seats and things to see. Busy even in mid-September.

We had a lovely time on the trail, it was perfect for our daughter who is just learning to ride her bike as it is level and tarmac rather than gravel. Stunning sea views, a very relaxing way to see Portland Harbour. Only 4 stars...More

This is called locally as the Rodwell Trail. Built to bring Portland stone over to the main land, and on onwards. Like London, where Christopher Wren liked to use. Fine example, St Paul's cathedral . Its a great walk, taking you right over the causeway...More

We were told about the Rodwell Trail so decided to try it. It is relatively flat as it follows a section of the the old railway between Weymouth and Portland. As such, it is also keenly used by bicycles (it is part of a national...More

This is a very pleasant area for a walk or bike ride. The stretch between Sandsfoot Castle and The Ferrybridge being the more scenic. This part is open, bright and friendly, you can carry your walk on across the Ferrybridge towards Portland and have a...More

This walk was very dull - it is nearly all set into the railway embankment with no views whatsoever. You could be walking anywhere and there are much more scenic and interesting walks to do. So don’t bother in my view.

So sorry, only just seen the question as not on here very often. Just in case still relevant, cross the bridge across Weymouth Harbour and it's on the left off the start of Abbotsbury Road, next to some 'figure' cut-outs.
