We love the castle visiting two or three times a year. Whilst it’s not huge it’s enclosed and there is plenty of open space for children to run around . Whilst facilities are limited it’s location in the centre of town means you are not...More

Visited the Castle and walked around the ruins and grounds, it was a wet and windy day during our visit. But we enjoyed our visit. Also liked Bernard Castle main high street and shops.

Well this is my hometown so I am biased - having said that my friends and family love coming here. It is a beautiful country town with friendly locals and lots of history - love it

Located just behind the main shopping street, the castle site is large. However, there isn't much to see as most of the castle has gone and there are only small sections of remains left. I don't know why they charge to visit as its possible...More

From the town centre will followed the path to the riverside as directed by one of the many map info boards. It's a lovely vista, looking back and up at the castle monument. We liked the info boards that told us all about the river...More

Lots of it left and it was great to see how it was altered over time - some of the information boards really help you envisage what it looked like in different periods. You can walk around the ditch and the children I saw there...More

Stopped en route south for lunch. Lovely market/ county town with v impressive castle. Quite bustling with people, lots of interesting shops, eateries etc. Best part is lots of free parking on the street and it was for 2 hours. 👍👍👍 Would stop here again.

Buzzy, little town with good shops, cafes etc. Friendly people and picturesque. Really liked it. Lovely old buildings, a strong sense of community and a market place.

this is a great castle to visit with easy access from the main road. Well worth a look around the grounds. The shop assistant was also very helpful and a credit to English Heritage
