This is a picturesque ruin in a park which is situated between the castle mound and the River Avon. The building is roofless, so there is little more than bare walls to be seen. However, these walls are clearly old and there is an interesting...More

This is by the river bank and close to the castle remains, not too much to look at but it originally formed part of the castle complex so you can get an idea of what was there.

You get a good view of this norman house from the walkway by the water. The house is in the teagarden of a hotel.

On a lovely weekend it was sunny and people were out and about, fishing on the River Avon or lounging on chairs by it. Lovely ruins, the Norman house gives a perspective of life as it was in a communal setting with a large fireplace...More

Personally I found the infromation about King John visiting 10 times rather special. Maybe, I stood on the exact same spot as he made important Royal decisions al that time ago? To be fair there’s not a great deal of ruins to explore, but it...More

It's hard to believe this hasn't been rebuilt. Maybe it has, as it was originally built in the 12th century. Beautiful view through the ruined arches to the River Avon - and all those swans. But it was the round chimneys that impressed me most. Who...More

The Norman House, as it's known, was the Constable's House and originally sat within the castle bailey (the ruins of which sit adjacent to here). The main feature of the ruin is the chimney, which is one of the few surviving ones in the country....More

Being right next to the river you get a real sense of how this building would have been used a part of the castle. Not a lot left of the ruin itself apart from the outside walls but still worth a visit..
