A small fort rather than a castle. It's a bit of a walk, the steps up from the beach lead to a slightly more difficult climb over quite rough ground. For an easier route go through the village to the start of the Pilgrims Way...More

The "castle" is actually a ruin but by climbing the stone steps you get an elevated view towards Polruan and Fowey estuary.

We visited the castle on a short coastal path walk we found. It’s an attraction, however there isn’t really any information about it on display. You get nice views out across the bay.

As the title suggests, the walk to St. Catherine's Castle is an easy one from Fowey. The walk can even be broken by pausing st Readymoney Cove en route (Readymoney Cove is actually worth the walk in it's own right). There's not a great deal...More

The views up and down the river Fowey were beautiful and was quite romantic. The castle was more for looking from the outside however you can go inside if you wish

Visited st Catherine's castle in the late afternoon it was a lovely hike up to the castle and free bar the parking. The beach and views over Fowey were lovely and like being abroad somewhere. Would recommend to anybody.

This is a great hike from the center of Fowey. I think we competed it in under an hour. The steps are steep if that is a concern. There are trails that continue on at the top, but we ran out of daylight. You can...More

Having previously visited Fowey, this time I wasted to visit the ruin that is St Catherine's Castle at the end of the estuary where the Fowey river spills into the sea. It's very easy to find and the walk to the starting point is signposted....More

How stunning the views are from here a vista looking over Fowey and across to Polruan. Interesting History as it was built by Henry theV111 and supervised by Thomas Treffry one of a strong Fowey family. Although now in disrepair it obviously held great significance...More

It's free! No car park - you have to walk from the one above Readymoney; walk down (past Dawn French's house) to the beach & up through the woods out to the promontory. No wheelchair access. Glorious view of Fowey & Polruan... More
