Yeovil Railway Centre opens regularly (but see website for full details of dates and times, also prices and attractions as these vary) for Steam Train Days using own industrial steam engine. Passengers travel in either a historic brake van or coach. Special events also feature as well as Santa Specials in December. Model Railway, turntable demonstrations, Miniature Railway etc on site. Main line steam engines also visit on occasions to use the turntable and other facilities.Special viewing platform allows visitors to see the turning at close quarters. Shop is open Sunday mornings (10am to noon) and also when events are planned. Refreshments during events only. Disabled access to train via ramp (only when coach is in use - see website. Limited to standard wheelchairs and not heavy electric wheelchairs) also to Visitor Centre/refreshments and Shop. Some areas not accessible but working on improving this.

Right next to Yeovil Junction, main line railway Waterloo to Exeter. Watch out for local road signs to confirm dates the railway operates, diesel and steam. Occasional visits from mainline railway companies. Has shop, cafe and membership available. Ex LSWR with GWR original transfer shed...More

Visited on a steam day, rode in the brake car pulled by the steam engine, also went on the mini railway which was also steam driven, cafe is good value, and the shop was very well stocked with second hand books, magazines and DVDs/VHS ....More

Spent an enjoyable 2 hours at this venue. Staff are great and knowledgeable and obviously love what they do. Small warning , you pay on the gate by cash not card and as we didn't have enough cash we returned to Yeovil and returned later....More

We came in 2014 (see our review) and unfortunately due to childhood illnesses were unable to do so in 2015. Luckily all went well this year and clearly a huge amount of time effort and trouble went in to make this years event a success....More

My grandchildren (aged 4 & 6) went on a Santa trip in 2015. Of course it wasn't the most slick experience by today's standards, but they thoroughly enjoyed it, as did their parents. There was a happy, friendly atmosphere and worthwhile presents.
