beautiful countryside only a mile or two from Bedford centre. Lots of free parking. We walked round lake about 1.5 miles, but sign saying part of circular route closed from November to March for overwintering ducks.

You can literally walk or cycle to Sandy and back without crossing a road if you want to. A walk around the lake is about 1.5miles, level walking on good paths. Or you can go off-piste and wander for hours if that is your thing.

I used to work in Bedford for many years and never visited Priory Country Park but I got the chance to go on a day off so took the opportunity to check it out. I accessed it from the car park near the roundabout junction with the A421. There are a number of other places to get to it including off Barkers Lane. There are a number of different walks to take through the park but I decided to walk round the lake which seems to be the most popular route as there were a number of other people doing the same thing. There are a number of benches to sit on and enjoy the view and take a rest and there is also a cafe and the Beefeater restaurant too. The River Ouse skirts the edge of the park and it's also nice to walk near there too. If you are in the area it's definitely worth checking out.

Visiting Bedford, stopped off at Priory Country Park to stretch my legs. Lovely country park on the banks of the River Great Ouse. Wide open green spaces. Didn't see another person - probably as it was raining! Only wish there had been a bench on which to sit and enjoy the view!
