MS Vulkana is the result of a dream and a wild idea between friends. The owners of the boat share a passion for the beautiful nature in Northern Norway, sauna and bathing as well as excellent food. Together with the respected Finish architect; Sami Rintala, they transformed what once was a old worn out fishing vessel into a adventure boat, inspired by bathing cultures around the world.

The Vulkana gives you a unique way to access the majestic coastal area of Northern Norway in a comfortable setting. We focus on high quality food with seasonal and local ingredients, comfortable cabins, service minded crew, cleanliness and a low key but still exclusive feeling.

Vulkana has taken us in to the fjords and down the coast; bathing, skiing, hunting, fishing, eating, drinking and enjoying life in the sauna, hot-tub og Hamam under the midnight sun and the northern lights. Vulkana is a place for activity and energy as well as an oasis for tranquility and contemplation.

Welcome on board for your adventure

We took the on port spa day, which cost 199 NOK an hour. We were greeted by a very nice host and we were able to take a shower with a view. Then we went to the sauna which was just too hot for us so we moved to the steam room and zen room. it was nice way to... More

The reservation process was easy and the staff are responsive and friendly, unfortunately due to a lack of other participants we were not able to go on the whale watching cruise as originally intended. The staff were very accommodating, knowing that we had travelled from Asia and U.K for this trip and organised a custom short cruise for us at... More

So after 3 days of walking around Tromso and the surrounding area in negative temperatures, you start to realise that your muscles and joints are aching more than usual. We planned to pop by Vulkana on the last of our days in Tromso - it was moored up on the Sunday and opened from 12pm (we got there just beforehand... More

Vulkana is an old boat converted into a spa! It has an amazing hot tub overlooking the fjord, a sauna, steam room and zen lounge. You can access all of these things (and snacks) for the one price and pay by the hour (199nok). You can also buy drinks on board to enjoy. We intended to spend an hour there... More

I had emailed Vulkana several weeks before our trip to enquire about the drop in spa and was told it would only be open on one day of our trip. This was perfect as it was our last day and we were looking forward to a little relaxation on-board before going home. I had informed Vulkana we would be coming... More

Dear Richard! Thank you for your comment! We are truly sorry you came to the Vulkana only to find out we were not available that Sunday due to a charter arrangement on board! We totally understand the misunderstanding, as you were told earlier this is a offer you don´t need to make a reservation for. The idea is that this... More

Excellent experience! Thoroughly enjoyed sitting in a hot tub on a deck surrounded with snow, sauna with window views of the stunning fjord scenery and taking a quick plunge in the Arctic waters! The fish stew (minus the fish for me) was prepared as we sailed and was truly a delicious and very filling meal. Highly recommend this very unique,... More

The Vulkana is a converted fishing boat, with a hot tub on deck (heated by a wood-burning stove) and a sauna and Turkish bath below. The sauna has windows so you can watch the scenery as you sweat. The whaling watching tour gave us great views of orcas after a cruise of about 1.5 hours north from Tromsø. On the... More

The Vulcana experience + whale watching was absolutely fantastic. Everything worked perfectly well, the weather, the hot tub, the breathtaking scenery, the saunas, the fabulous lunch with very tasty soup and the dessert you can dream of, a very friendly and professional crew, and, on top of it all, loads of "playful" orkas, kind enough to swim pretty close to...
