“Amazing architecture ... a wonderful re-use of a Victorian gas storage system”
Since the end of the 1990s, four teams of star architects have been working on converting four 112-year-old gasometers into a new urban complex. Vienna undertook a remodelling and revitalization of the protected monuments and in 1995 called for...more

This is probably the most under-rated feature of Vienna. Four gigantic brick-shrouded gas holders have been converted into buildings that house shops, studios, and flats to create a community. Moreover, the gasometers are surrounded by interesting modern building (like several apartment blocks faced with green...More

Our hotel was a 500 meter walk from Gasometer metro station. The shopping area around this station is decent and this is a major central point of stay in Vienna. Conveniently located close to Stephanplatz (City centre), Karlplatz, and/or Prater, you can access most points...More

We have learnt that 3 former gas collectors were united to form a business centre, a shopping and an traction. We went there in the late Saturday afternoon, guessing it were full of life and joy. ... and found it empty, except children who were...More

These refurbished gas storage tanks provide an interesting contrast with the classical architecture of old Vienna. Our guide told us that they contain flats, shops and a concert theatre. An excellent example of architectural recycling.

I wisited gasometer during a tour by car. I am glad i did. Interesting construction, very creative. Looks very mighty and a little scary too. I do suggest to everyone to visit though as.it is not every day you see something like that

Every time when I travel to Vienna, it's possible to see this building from the window of the train. I suppose, each of you has at least been informed about this building, that was beautifully restored in the late 1990s. My main purpose wasn't the...More

The Gasometers in Vienna are four former gas tanks, each of 90,000 m³ storage capacity that have been repurposed to form a city within the city. They were originally built between 1896-1899 and the shells were converted and refurbished in the late 1990's as a...More

Don't come here for the shopping centre. It contains a Spar "Gourmet", a McCafe and it smells of stale chips. The buildings look great from the outside but the inside lets it down. Many of the shops are closed, even at 16:30 on a Saturday.

There is seating but standing is better. Very near the U Bahn (tube) and easy to find. Beautiful conversion into concert venue and housing. Our 3rd concert here and we have a favourite spot which I won't give away here, great barmaids, very quick service...More

Wow what a stunning building. We're here for a concert, Bastille, and that was amazing! But the rules were stupid! Easy to get in and everyone is security checked, which is fine we understand that. Went to go to seats, and was told our jackets...More
