If you appreciate gothic style, a perfect example is the Alter Dom of Linz. Its stained glass windows all around are truly a gem about Linz's history and personalities. But that's not all. Nice classical music concerts, specially organ, are a plus to enrich your...More

The old cathedral began life as a Jesuit church. When Linz became a bishopric in 1785, the city needed a cathedral, so St. Ignatius became the Cathedral (now the Old Cathedral). The church interior is done in the Italian Baroque style. The green exterior features...More

The Old cathedral is in fact a small baroque church. No wonder it was replaced with the huge New Cathedral. We stumbled upon it while exploring the Hauptplatz area.

Looking at previous reviews I don't understand how you could rate this average. Granted, from the outside, it doesn't look like much, but once you step inside I think it's pretty spectacular!

Unfortunately, we found many churches in Austria to be the same - mostly white interiors with marble altar accents. The Alter Dom in Linz was just this sort of church. While we can't seem to pass a church door without trying to see the interior,...More

This is another majestic church among the many that we saw on our holiday markets Danube River cruise in Bavarian Germany and Austria. But this church was part of our Linz walking tour and is memorable because it's gleaming white interior reflects more ambient light....More

Go instead for St. Martin's Church - by the way the oldest church in Austria and it is said that Charles the Great already visited it. It is within walking distance from Alter Dom!

Majestic and ornate, the Old Cathedral in Linz is a much more satisfying church to visit in summer 2017. All the statues and paintings are in place, the Dom, while no longer the official city cathedral, is a functioning church. Plenty of light to see...More

We visited the new cathedral first then walked over to this the original cathedral. Worth the visit. Beautiful Baroque interior. Close to the Hauptplatz.

A Jesuits church stands amidst the noisy city street yet come on in and you'll find serenity in few moments in there. Its ornamentation, neat and clean colors of white and ebony gave you a time to be awed by the interior so beautiful. The two...More
