We were only in Linz for one day and for most of that we were on a shore excursion to the Czech Republic. All we had time for was a stroll through the main part of the town and we wandered into this cathedral. So...More

When you've seen umpteen cathedrals throughout Europe it's difficult to be impressed. This one is noted for its sheer size, massive columns on the interior and some interesting stained glass windows. We happened upon an English mass being presented and were surprised at how casual...More

Our hotel was located adjacent to the Dom with fantastic views from the hotel windows. Although the largest cathedral in Austria (apart from the spire which is 2 metres short of St Stephens Vienna) there are fantastic stained glass windows which mostly avoided damage during...More

Mariendom is stunning from the outside. I didn't go inside but you can get some really nice photos from the outside. There are benches outside to sit and relax, but it can be pretty cold in the winter!

The Neuer Dom is impressive from the outside, just on sheer size alone. It is the largest church in Austria, but the tower is 2 meters shorter than Stephen's south tower in Vienna. Very peaceful and spacious inside, free entrance. Well worth the walk around.

The church is absolutely stunning both inside and out. The pure size is amazing and the interior is beautiful. The high curved ceilings stained glass and exposed stone is truly wonderful.

The spires of this dom stood out when I visited the Pöstlingberg. I just had to visit. It is a beautiful, well-preserved Dom, with gothic spires and fascinating stained glass art. Located off a tiny alley near the city center, it is relatively less-crowded than...More

The cathedral is one of the longest but not the highest in Austria, and it certainly should be rich during his visit to Linz. In an era when built was not allowed to be taller than the tower of the church of St. Stevan of...More

If memory serves right this is the biggest church in Austria. Just walk in - entrance if free - and let the atmosphere wash over you. Impressive architecture, beautiful glass windows, and a quiet place to take a break from the noise of the streets....More

I'll answer my own question- According to the Dom staff, you can only climb the spire as part of the tour, and that tour has limited runs. Contact domcenter@dioezese-linz.at for additional details.
