This museum near the lakeside, carries a lot of exhibits local to the area, including of course many referring to the well known salt mine. Not always open, so check timings carefully before planning a visit.

Even if you're not a "history buff", this museum is definitely worth a stop. It is well organised and has many interesting displays of artefacts from the old Hallstatt to the new.

Tourists who visit this place should also visit this museum to get a better understanding of the unique character of the town. Beautiful displays, beautiful very special archaeological finds that made this town the 'type site' of an Iron-age culture. Must see.

A very interesting museum about the history of the town from prehistoric to modern times. The last part shows the artefacts from the tombs. Lots of multimedia. Most of the explanations are in German and little is translated but the objects are worth the visit.

This nice but small museum does a fine job of telling the story of salt and mining from prehistoric to roman to medieval to modern times. Explains the importance of Hallstatt culture for cultural anthropology. Good displays.
