    Reykjavic short visit.
We had a fantastic time in Reykjavic, the first day we spent in the city and visited the Hallgrimskirkja Church, the views from the Bell tower are breath-taking and I would recommend visiting. On the way back to the Ship we went into the Hard Rock Cafe for a drink and would found that interesting with excellent service. On the second day we visited the Blue Lagoon and that was amazing, I can't speak highly enough of this experience and would advise anyone to try it if they get chance. It's also a great place for cat lovers as they seem to be in lots of places and even do cat tours. I would highly recommend a visit to Reykjavic.

You can swim outside in December!
The staff was very friendly. They are strict about showering without your swim suit on before entering the pool, and while it is a communal shower, it is separated by gender. The Olympic sized pool is cooler than the shallow kids play area, but by no means freezing despite the outside temperature being -4C. This is a fantastic place to spend a few hours relaxing or getting your exercise in regardless of the time of year!

Clean place with loads of different things to do.
Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the Blue Lagoon due to it being closed, so we needed to find an alternate place for some relaxation in the Reykjavik area. We spent 2 hours at Laugardalslaug in the evening and enjoyed the different hot tubs and the atmosphere. It is a clean family friendly place with many different pools including an indoor pool, waterslide, gym, steam room. When we visited it, it was 2 degrees, but we were perfectly warm and the outdoor pool was warm enough for training.

Due to unforeseen circumstances - bloody huge volcanic eruptions☹️, the Blue Lagoon was closed and thus the other Lagoons were quickly booked up.

However, apart from any views, surroundings etc one would maybe question why pay all that money when there are facilities like this at a minimal cost.

£7.50 each including locker - Olympic warm water outdoor swimming pool, other pools (including great kids slides etc), an indoor pool, varying hot tubs up to 44 deg C, a cold tub area (7 deg C 🥶), a large steam room, a saltwater heated spa pool and the list goes on.

We had a great 2 hours even though it rained a couple of times - when you are wet you are wet and the water you are in is warm anyway!

As widely known Iceland is full of geothermal waters, pools and spas.
You can find them in almost every town and village all over the island.
The most famous one is certainly the Blue Lagoon, with the newer Sky Lagoon being on the rise. However, for both of them (specially for the Blue Lagoon) be prepared to pay skyrocketing entry fees.

Contrary to them, public pools like Laugardalslaug are budget friendly, giving you similar treatment (in some aspects even more), if you don't mind ordinary tile pools surroundings instead of fancy lava stone around you.
During our Iceland holiday we've visited both, Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, as well Laugardalslaug in Reykjavik and Sundholl public pool in Selfoss, so I can tell and will point out the differences.
The first most obvious difference is the entry fee:
- Blue Lagoon 80-100 $ pp depending on the time you visit, for the basic experience including entry fee, one drink and one face mask,
- Sky Lagoon 50-60 $ for a basic entry - no drinks included nor rituals,
- Laugardalslaug and Sundholl in Selfoss 9$ (up to 15y and over 66 free, 16-17y 2$).

The second obvious difference is in Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon you'll see around 95% tourists, while in public pools that percentage goes for locals.

In all pools it is mandatory to take a wash and shower all naked (without your swimming suit). There're separate men and women areas and you rejoin your party after that in the pools.

Speaking of Laugardalslaug, it is the biggest pool complex on Iceland.
It's located in the capital's eastern part. Big free parking lot in front.
The complex consists of indoor and outdoor pools.
Indoor are two big pools for swimming and water polo - very few people in both.
Outside, there's a big swimming pool (almost Olympic size) with lanes and temp around 28-29'C. For me this was very important as I could properly swim in hot water. Remember, in Lagoons you cannot swim, and it gets boring when you only sit and stare in hot water.
Beside it, there's another shallow pool for kids with slides and with 2 adjoining sitting parts.
Along the main big pool are several big hot tubs (jacuzzi's) with temp ranging from 38 to 44'C and a cold dip of 11'C (highly recommended).
Besides all these, there's a very fair size steam room and sauna.

I cannot attach any photos as it is forbidden to take your cell phone or camera into the pool area (you must leave them in the lockers), contrary to the Lagoons where everybody's taking pics.

To conclude - Iceland public baths are a much better option if you don't mind the ordinary, people's scenery around you.
Would I go again there - definitely.
Would I visit Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon again - no.

These hot pools are located within walking distance from The Hotel Cabin in Reykjavik. They are a little time worn and some of the infrastructure would benefit from an upgrade however it is a hidden treasure if you like soaking in geothermal pools. The changing rooms are very well maintained and supervised but do be aware that Icelandic hygiene standards require visitors to shower naked before entering the pool area in the same sex changing rooms. I found the staff very friendly and helpful and the entire experience was wonderful. I went back the next day. For people over 66 entry is free. Just take proof of age and you will be welcomed. For younger people, prices are low.

We were booked in to do a walking tour but with a crazy wind storm we didn’t fancy it. One of our tour guides suggested we should try one of the local pools instead. We had a really lovely afternoon here. Only a short bus ride away from the Centre and it’s a relatively cheap activity. The inside pool was shut as there was a tournament on, so we enjoyed a swim in the outside pool. It’s pretty cold (esp after enjoying the lagoons), but once you get swimming it’s all good. We really enjoyed the hot and cold baths and chatting to the super friendly locals. We spent a couple of hours here and had a lovely time. It’s not fancy - and could probably do with a fresh coat of paint but we really enjoyed it.
