What a joy visiting Videy Island. The island is filled with walking trails and provides beautiful views of Reykjavik. The island is great for bird watching and for enjoying peace and quiet in a stunningly beautiful setting.

The boat to get there is not expensive, and if you go to the Skarfagardar dock, there's one departure every hour. We spent 3 hours on the island, including 45 minutes to eat our lunch. Not a lot of people were there (it was very...More

We discovered Videy Island on our last day in Reykjavik; it was a short boat ride to an island of hiking and birding and peace within sight of the city. The café there had excellent coffee and dessert, and we sat outside enjoying the spring...More

This island is the remains of a volcano and was inhabited until the 1930's. There is a free tour every day which gave some insight into the history of the island which was interesting. Lots of seabirds to see. Worth a brief visit.

Stunning peaceful island, very breezy, I would recommend to visit summertime only - the temperature on the sea whilst on the ferry were very low, extremely windy. I don't think I'd ever been that bone chillingly cold in my life! Well worth to visit, you...More

Some friends who had been to Iceland before us recommended we do this, otherwise I don't know that it would have been on our radar screen. I highly recommend it, though! It is very easy to drive to the place where the boat departs and...More

I have visited Reykjavik several times before but never managed to get time to visit Videy Island. This time I decided I would, and found it an interesting place. I took the ferry which only took 5 minutes. It was raining when I went but...More

Went there because of a brief description on a visitor information brochure. Definitely not disappointed during and after the brief visit. Wish I can spend more time in the little island where you feel the fresh ocean breeze and enjoy the company of many sea...More

No. There are no cars AT ALL. Which makes the island really peaceful. There are very clearly marked walking paths. It is a bit windy so make sure to bring hat/ear protection.

Go to old harbor. There are a few ferries there and you can ask for their times. To be honest I don't know if there are any that go regularly during the winter. Call or email Elding. They're located on the harbor and they... More

There are two spots to get a ferry to Videy. One is at the old harbour, right in the city centre and another one next to the industrial port that is very near to the island. So probably if you get the ferry at the old... More
