This museum is known as the Duus Museum. One block from the Hotel Berg, 6 minutes from the Keflavik Airport. Have lunch at the Duus Kaffe and enjoy this fabulous museum.

Ok, maybe they're not a thousand but they sure are a lot. The museum is combined with an art gallery and basically has two big rooms: one with old fishing tools and reconstructions of the old way of life, and the other lining up an impressive display of models of all kinds of boats and ships.

We love to visit this museum. One man made all of the boats. They are replicas of real boats and ships.

Even though parts of this little museum were closed while we were there, the exhibits of the boats was really neat. What made it a top rating place were the informational boards all around the perimeter. they were exceptional. This is probably not a mandatory stop if you only have limited time in iceland but, if you happened to schedule a layover in Keflavik, this is a great 30 minute visit = and, combine it with the museum next door.

We'd actually stopped to have a look at the Anchor Monument, which is about a hundred meters away, when we noticed the Dusshus Museum. Wandering through the rooms of the Dusshus we walked into the Maritime Center, which is in the same building.

The models are very impressive in their quality and attention to detail. Around the edge of the room are old photos depicting the lives of fisherman and their families, with captions in both Icelandic and English, which I found very interesting. Also, entry is free.

Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area (which you will be because it's about two miles from the airport).

We stopped by to see the collection of fishing ship models, but we're pleased to find more history of Iceland (picture, artifacts).

You will learn not only the history of Iceland's fishing industry, but also how Iceland was formed as well as the flora and fauna present.

An insight in to the Icelandic fishing industry. Explained how they did things years ago. Also hundreds of models of fishing boats trawlers all built in the same scale so you get an idea how much things have grown over the years. Very interesting place
