I played Golf in the "Arctic Open" the world's most northerly golf tournament. Great fun. Tee off times all day and as late as 11:30 pm !! Play all night under the midnight sun. You are generally paired with some locals which makes for great conversation as they all speak perfect english. Rum and hot chocolate stations dot the course. Temper your expectations on course quality - it is not Augusta. You are at the Arctic circle after all. Free lifts on the fairways, they are bumpy with crab grass. But hey, a wonderful experience. The club staff are very accommodating by the way. When in Iceland in June, this is a must.

The fairways are rough, the greens are bumpy and not very green, the rental clubs are dirty and kind of old and the carts lurch & bump. However this was a great and fun experience and if you have ever hit a golf ball you owe yourself a Tee time if you are ever in Iceland

The staff was nice enough to let me tee it up at practically 10:00 pm last month, and when I made the turn, the only car in the lot was mine. The course isn't immaculate by any stretch, as the harsh weather can do a number on the greens. But I have also encountered my share of bumpy greens in the USA on many occasions.

The course is beautiful at the time of night, as the slight fog hovers above, and the mountains add a nice backdrop to your view. Again, I am grateful to the staff for allowing me this late night opportunity.

I only had one day to play golf in Akureyri. I called the course and was informed that the course was closed for practice rounds for the next days Iceland Open. I begged and pleaded bd they squeezed me in at 6:50 pm! I played with a nice local couple who were very helpful in showing me targets and sight lines. A very challenging course with doglegs, well bunkered and some significant elevation changes. The greens were a little rough due to a late heavy winter that damaged some of the grasses. I rented a set of Taylor Made clubs that were off set and I left a lot of shots to the right but
Managed to get around pretty well. An enjoyable round that I finished at 11:10 still light enough to see! This course hosts the Artic Open on June 24th the longest day of the year and they play at midnight! Well attended by golfers from all over the world. Very nice new practice facility makes this a nice stop for any golfer traveling in northern Iceland . Staff friendly and accommodating .

I turned up early and mucked booking around, they were very accommodating rearranging things. Put me with 3 members who were great hosts despite only one really speaking English. The course is well maintained considering only open May to October. Front and back nines quite different. Multiple tee positions add to the challenge. Overall very fair for what it is i.e. not a 'championship' layout by any means but still a good day out. And you can tick 'the northernmost 18 hole course on the planet' off your bucket list!

Despite the climate and months of no sun the Icelanders take full advantage of the Midnight Sun during the summer and enjoy many outdoor activities. Golf is one of the activities that surprised me. The courses look a bit different than most as there are very few to no trees and the terrain is a bit rough, but that is what makes it so special. Akureyri hosts the annual Artic Open which I believe is the only golf tournament anywhere held at or above the Artic Circle. I think it would be a blast to visit and play here.

If you are Golf mad this is a must do as it is the most northern course on the planet.
The Golf Club hosts the Arctic Open around the summer solstice which is a unique event.

Ship got in Fri. No prearranged teetime so could only walk about a bit and look. Condition of fairways look good.

Yardage not long and quite a range of difficulty depending on tees used. Fairways fairly hilly with wide fairways but sections obviously narrow.

Small pro shop. Nice coffee shop.

Most northern golf course in the world. Folks here are very friendly and course is in great shape for these conditions. You can play lots of golf as the sky is always light in the summer!
