The dirt road winding from the valley to the hilltop facing the Taygetos Range ends before you start doubting your car suspensions might collapse. With a short walk you’ll reach the ancient heroon (a heroes sanctuary) dedicated to king Menelaos and his wife Helen. The...More

It is a really interesting monument to see, especially if you're familiar with the stories of Menelaus and Helen. The view from the top is beautiful as well! And there is not a lot of ppl around so you can really enjoy it; when we...More

We were keen to visit this site, having read a lot about it. We followed the road google maps recommended which led us up a very difficult path (from the south) and it is much better to approach from the north via the church. We...More

The site itself is not very large. There is the Menelaion structure and then a little distance away some old house wall remains. The site is free and there are no guards. The road up to the site is very steep and not ideal for...More

This site is dedicated to the memory of Helen and Menelaus and is built on top of a hill overlooking Sparta. It is not so easy to get there by car, as the road is rather steep. There is not a lot to see there...More

I waited for near sunset for a much more dramatic photo. It was work the effort but I have to miss the Roman Theater because you need to walk 1.5 km to this place thru olive orchard up the hill. Felt like real Spartan.
