I give it a 4 because, although stunningly, breathtakingly beautiful from above, when you get to the beach it is all white pebbles. Whilst they in themselves are so, so lovely, they are hard to walk on.

The beach into the sea shelves quite quickly and is not such a good place for young children ... nor for anyone who isn’t a fairly good swimmer.

There are a lot of underwater currents there too ... so whilst it’s a lovely beach, it can be a challenge, particular when the surf is up!

I’ve been there when the sea has been as flat as a pond and have floated quite happily in the aqua sea ... I’ve also been there where the sea has tried to claim my bikini bottoms as I’ve tried to get out!

In fact, if you have mobility issues, Myrtos is a bit of a no, no.

So relaxing
Apr 2020
Visited Cephalonia quite a long time ago (when it was and hopefully still is) unspoiled & HAD to visit this beach for snorkelling and a swim.

From a distance, the beach & see look stunning, but it is not sand, it is small pebbles and the water is such a light blue colour because the cliff walls are (I assume) chalk, so once you get into the water & try to have a look underwater, you can't actually see anything hahahaha

We were also warned about a jellyfish invasion, so imagine my horror when snorkelling and my right arm waved through what felt exactly like the top end of a jellyfish - my friends all fell about laughing when all they heard through the snorkel was "WHAT THE **** IS THAT?!?!!" only to discover that it was a discarded plastic bag which as the exact texture of a jellyfish! Hey ho

Great place - Cephalonia was (and is) a wonderful place.

Road closed cannot visit
Oct 2020 • Couples
Not sure why no one else has written these to save people time but the road is closed, we tried to walk down and another point the road is fully closed and says not safe to walk down - not sure if the road has come away or there has been landslides like in Assos ( also don’t bother visiting as roads closed due to damage from landslides also)

Stunning

Absolutely stunning. Must see it from above to appreciate the blue sea. Beautiful drive around the coastline. Watch out for the random goats

An absolutely beautiful beach viewed from above. I was on my way to Fiskardo so I didn't really have the time to actually go down to the beach. I was told that it can be very busy and that the view from high on the cliffs was the best feature. Certainly, I'd recommend it.

Great views from above

This beach is obviously the most famous. The views from the mountain are stunning and the drive up and down as fairly straght forward. I would recommend proper swimming footwear as the pebbles can be quite painful. Nice place to visit but head to Makris Galios if you like sandy beaches. The water is more wavey than Makris Galios.

Loved it

Beautiful beach. The sea has all different shades of blue which is amazing, really cool to swim in (but be careful of the rough waves!), never seen a beach like it before. Not loads of choice for food but that’s okay for me, prices weren’t too bad either. We got a taxi to take us there, it was the more expensive option but meant we got to avoid the steep drive down and had no hassle with traffic getting there or back. Really recommend as a must see in Kefalonia!

Raw beauty and force
Sep 2020
The beach is stunningly beautiful, even more so when the waves are huge. If you use your common sense and watch them from the shore you'll be witness to a great display of the beauty and force of nature. The whole experience is beautiful: the many shades of blue in the water, the thunder of the crashing waves, the small droplets of water the wind brings on your face and the smell of the salty sea.

Adding to what two previous reviewers said about the guy that "tried to win the
Darwin Award", he was eventually rescued by a helicopter after staying 6 hours on a small anchored raft with a lifeguard, riding 3-4 meter waves. May sound fun but I'm sure it's not.

Take caution when swimming here, even when the waves seem small-medium, as the water is deep and there is a current pulling you back into the water when trying to get out, so you'll have to fight it a little. As a bonus, exiting the water you'll step on rocks that will prevent you from exiting elegantly. More common would be exiting doing the Australopithecus walk or sometimes even on all fours.

If you accept those things and are aware of and respect the power of the sea here, you'll have a great experience.

Sorry didn’t visit the beach in person but as we were on the coastal road our taxi driver insisted on taking us past for a photo
