Closed Due To Fire Risk
Jul 2021 • Couples
The National Park is closed. We drove up this morning, July 31 and there was a sign that said it would be closed until 4 August due to high fire risk. No entry by car or foot permitted.
Would have been helpful to been written on their website so not to waste a morning driving up there.

Waste of two mornings on our holiday
Sep 2020 • Family
Visited 31 August. It was closed. Sign said would re-open 1st September. Drove all the way up again on the 1st September - closed for another two days. Two wasted day outs. No site to check, you just have to waste your holiday riding up and down to see if its open. People running the place are clearly muppets.

A must see ( by car , bike or walk)
Jul 2020 • Couples
Best place to escape the hot and have wonderful view on the island. Road is not flat at all but in good condition. Authorities block the access (at least by car) around 6 kms before top when there is too much wind so be careful. By bike, really keep some energy for the last 2 kms 🙄🙄🙄

The views...
May 2019
The views are stunning at the top (on a clear day of course). Make sure you take the actual road up there, there is another route but it is like death road, Even the tarmacked road is steep and tight. But worth it. The views are stunning!

Top of the World - kinda.
Sep 2019
With a fabulous winding road up the mountain side (past disused NATO and EU radar and listening stations) and then a cool drive under black Kefalonian fir forest you eventually emerge at the top of the mountain. The car park area is unpaved and a bit rough whilst being apt to be crowded but parking a little way down the road is okay. No parking charges btw. Amazingly you can stroll up to the myriad masts for phone and TV signals - but common sense prevails regarding intruding too far. Walking southwards along the unpaved road you arrive at a marvellous look-out point where a convenient bench sets you about a mile above sea level, with stunning views down to Lourdata and Katelios to the left and Passada and Avithos beach to the right and around the coast (Metaxta and Svoranata) towards Argostoli. On the horizon the island of Zante looms large. Take a jumper or light jacket with you, even on sunny days, because cloud can sometimes come in quite quickly and it can turn chilly. I've been up to the summit four times now and will nip up there every time I visit the island. It's truly spectacular. Be warned though, that there are no facilities - loos or cafes - so go prepared if you decide to linger awhile.
Note: do not be tempted to pick any wild flowers - the area is the sole habitat for the Kefalonian Mt Ainos violet - extremely rare - but discoverable all the same.Take your rubbish home.

Amazing views
Sep 2019 • Solo
As long as you have a head for heights this is a must see place. The road leading up to the summit is fine, especially the new part nearest the top. Stunning views, beautiful pine and fir forestry, mountain goats and wonderful peace and quiet, worth the drive up.

Beautiful and peaceful place to visit . Views are mind blowing. Perfect place to visit for a day. Plenty of places to park your car . Plenty of places to sit down and eat your sandwich accompanied with unique views.

Nice walk from the satellites spot. It is about 40 minutes to reach the top. Not so hard. Really amazing national park and way up there - lot of sheeps and goats.

Good morning adventure
Sep 2019 • Couples
Did this climb on the way to Argostoli from Skala.

Drive up was amazing; stunning views, surprisingly good roads(!), lots of goats, and barely any other cars around. Easy drive to be honest, but if you're a bit nervy toot your horn a few times going round the bends and use engine braking on the descent.

The signs were very Greek in nature, so we would suggest ignoring them and driving up until you see the huge satellite station (in the photos). That's where you park to start the 20-30 min hike to the top.

Lovely views on the way, and after about 5-10 mins you reach a picnic area. **This is very clearly not the summit as some people have mentioned - and there is no book to sign here either haha** Good views and nice pit stop before the slightly more challenging stuff or for lunch on the way back!

Walk past the picnic area and the rocky road takes you downhill mainly for around 10-15 mins. Then when you start questioning if there is actually a marked trail to get to the peak, the road bends round to the right and there's a trail through the pine trees.

This takes about 10 mins to walk up and then you come to a clearing. The arrow points left but the summit is to your right. So if you'd like to sign the book go right!

Watch your step and get ready for the views at the top!

We made our way back down and had been shut in due to wild fire risk. Luckily it was just a rope so we untied it and let ourselves out.

CHECK ONLINE BEFORE YOU SET OFF. IF IT HAS BEEN DRY. THERE'S A NUMBER YOU CAN CALL TO CHECK IF THE PARK IS OPEN OR CLOSED.

Great experience and highly recommended.

Stunning views of the surrounding islands
Sep 2019 • Couples
We drove up the the base of the transmitter station at Mount Aenos (about 40 minutes from Sami), and walked up to the top. The walk is beautiful - through pine poorest, and takes about 40 minutes. The last stretch is a bit of a scramble, so you need decent shoes, but you are completely rewarded with the stunning views over Kefalonia, Zakynthos and the surrounding islands. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Would suggest arriving early to avoid the heat of the day, and there are plenty of bees around, so be careful (although they didn’t seem to be very interested in us)
