I came here (ignorantly) expecting a huge statue of Colossus. Used my satnav to try and find it, until I gave up looking and asked another tourist. Where Colossus used to stand, is two small statues. Not what I was expecting as one of the...More

It takes some imagining to appreciate the site, but if one is into history it is neat to see. All that stands where the colossus was are two deer on pedestals, which for me is better than a tacky tourist trap of a reproduction in...More

The location of the original Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The entrance of the harbor is where it was located. It is marked by deer columns.

The Saint Nicholas Fortress dates back to around 1460, built by the Knights to protect Rhodes from Ottoman invasion. The French added the 20 foot tall lighthouse in 1863 on top of the St. Elmo tower. In 2007, a restoration effort improved both tower and...More

This site at the entrance to the harbour is where the Colossus is said to have been sited. There is nothing there to see now resembling that other than the pillars either side. Another good photo opportunity though.

Probably the most interesting place to visit nearby Mandraki. Here is supposed to have been erected the well known bronze Colussus

First a walk past the boats to the first pillar with the stag on it - where once a foot of colossus stood. Back past the boat trip hawkers around to the other pillar where the other deer stands, and once where colossus' other foot...More

Rated very good, because of the image that it conjures. How many of us learned about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World? Well, here one of them allegedly once stood, as tall as our Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor. Two deer statues...More
