This cathedral was dedicated to the Patron Saint of Heraklion and is one of Greece's largest churches. It also contains a wonderful collection of religious icon paintings in addition to having an extremely beautiful interior.

A place of quiet reflection in a big bustling city. It has the most stunning murals covering the ceilings which must be seen to fully appreciate. Sit and take in the beauty of his building and have a quiet moment before re-entering the modern world.

We stopped by to observe the children and masses of people at the service on a Sunday evening. The area outside the cathedral was lively and inside was packed. Obviously a place of worship for the local citizens.

Words simply cannot describe the splendor. After seeing churches in Greece over 14 years of travel we were not prepared for this! One of the most beautiful ever! Arguably THE loveliest we have had the pleasure to see. Do not miss.

The seat of the Archbishop of Crete, the Greek Orthodox Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Menas, the martyr and the patron saint of Heraklion. It was built in the 19th century as the largest cathedral on Crete, a stunning structure with even more fascinating interior.

Not the largest or more imposing cathedral in the world but the interior is superb with stunning ornamentation - huge chandeliers. painted ceilings, large stained glass window. Definitely worth a visit.

The first time we discovered St. Minas, we were a bit lost and looking for a cafe to sit and take a breather. Roaming the outer edge of the city center, we strolled down many a narrow alley, then there it was, one of the...More

This cathedral is gorgeous! The location is great! You can sit outside sip on some coffee and people watch! Kids usually are feeling birds outside on the steps... it really is beautiful and worth a stop!

The litourgy starts at 8 and finishes around 9.30. If there is a special celebration or a memorial service (common on a Sunday) it goes on till 10.30.
