Named for the Venetian Governor General of Heraklion, Gianmatteo Bembo in 1554, Bembo Fountain is a wonderful piece of Heraklion history passers-by will enjoy. It sits next to the Turkish Sibil on 1866 Street, which is where you'll find the city's wonderful central market. The...More

You are bound to come cross this fountain while strolling through the agora /market. it is a Venetian / Ottoman fountain. Unfortunately, like most of Crete's sight seeing's, there is no signage or indication giving any historical facts or information. This really a pity as...More

Interesting sight remembering the hard work and awareness of the importance of Crete and Iraklio for Venetians in Mediteranean sea. Giving more comfort to people in town and show their noble status. Curiosity is that survive together with turkish pump right next to right side.

We come from the big city and like to be on the vacation also, close to some places where we can meet a native culture and habits. Do not miss the fountains in Heraklion.

We have walked through a shopping market and then this beautiful fountain appeared like from nowhere. You can easily just past it without noticing which would be a big shame. It is a small 'attraction' but looks nice and you can take a beautiful picture...More

Nothing special, just an old fountain. Found this place easily. I think it was somewhere around the market.

The site, along with the Turkish Pump House, is under construction. The whole area where you would normally stand is blocked off, so far back that you cannot really see the Fountain. I'm sure it is much prettier and more impressive up close but on...More
