This place is steeped in history even prior to it becoming a Leper colony. It was occupied by the Venetians, and is now a world heritage site after being used as a Leper colony from 1903 to 1957. Crete was occupied by the Germans during...More

Loved the island. Loads of history which makes your imagination work overtime. Take water as four euros for a Fanta. Plaka boat best. Elounda ones only allow a one hour visit. 8 euro entrance too.

This day tour was recommended so we have it a try. Worth every penny. Steeped in history and the stories are really touching. Boat trip over was lovely too. Would recommend.

If you have the right guide (and we did) this is a fascinating trip and place to visit. Great history lesson and enjoyable walk around the ruins. Expensive cafeteria though!

The island of Spinnalonga is rich in history, and has some beautiful views the higher that you go. We went with a tour guide and it was really interesting. We were surprised that the last people only left in 1957, although a Monk stayed on...More

Hi I haven’t been from Agios but very easy to catch a bus to Plaka or Elounda and it’s a much shorter boat trip from there.

Its near the village of Pychro on the Lassithi Plateau. Follow the signs and you'll end up in a car park (€2.50) surrounded by shops. The sign says 200m to the cave, and it may be as the crow flies but it's a tough walk... More
