This must have been a one of a kind gate. The columns are magnificent. There is not much left of it, but you can still guess its glory

This was an amazing entrance to the Acropolis with a grand staircase, vision of the Temple of Nike and views to the city below. It was raining at the time and was a bit slippery, so be careful if you face similar conditions.

This was the very impressive entrance to the Acropolis. I think the first time I visited here I didn't pay much attention to it as I was eager to get to the Parthenon, however, this time I used the Rick Steves audioguide and he did...More

It is a feat of engineering and a credit to the archaeologists and restorers for recreating as much of this ancient gateway as they have, but, it still looks like a ruin, one that's not that impressive. Not in the context of some other ancient...More

This is the entrance to the Acropolis. It’s a steep walk up to the grounds so it’s easy to be looking down and not up to admire the columns that from this entrance gate.

This is the entrance to the Acropolis, although it looks like a temple is just a front door. Its construction was more expensive than that of the Partenon

This marks the end of the sacred way up to the Acropolis. The Pro Pulae is the 'before the gate' and seems to be written on the stone in the photograph used to illustrate this place. A place of scale and a very grand entrance
