Clanging of the guards in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier/Parliament building/ is a very interesting to watch, better ask locals, when they do it so you can be on time !

Ask someone what time the changing of the guard starts and stick around to experience some authentic Greek culture. The tomb of the unknown soldier is behind where the guard stand for duty so you may not get too close. Located across from a busy...More

Evzones. The Elite. The Presidential Guard may not be the best fighting unit of the Hellenic Army, like the Marines or the Seals. But it is definitely the best in Combative Diplomacy. It reflects the Hellenic Pride and blade (“leventia”) from the ancient years of...More

We visited this location on a couple of occasions. Changing of the guard is a wonderful experience to watch. If you visit on a Sunday make sure you are there for 11am to see the whole procession. Fantastic place to visit.

The soldier’s (Evzones meaning “well armed”, which are the Greek presidential guards) march and steps, represent the stepping of a galloping horse in slow motion. It might look funny to some, but it is a tribute to the cavalry march to battle. The uniform is...More

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is not a beautiful architectural place per se. However, it is one of the things, I'd suggest to do in Athens. The monument is impressive, but more so it the pride and respect Greece has to its fallen heros.

Compared to the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, this is much more interesting and dramatic - the guards take large strides in their walking, very distinctive. The change is done every hour, 24 hours per day so you have plenty of opportunity to...More

The Tomb of the Unknows Soldier is a war memorial located at Syntagma Square. It offers a photo opportunity while watching the changing of the guard. The Evzones are guarding this memorial.

We were just in time to see the arrival of a big detachment of beautifully dressed soldiers walking in typical slow pace behind the military band. The whole ceremony lasted about half an hour and was done in a strict but stylish way. A must...More

They have the changing of the guard every hour at the tomb of the unknown soldier. There is no fee. If you have a little time it is worth the visit.

Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is
Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament
building on its upper side and surrounded by other
large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande
Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia
are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like
the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia
Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents,
