best of both worlds. Park and historic church. To visit you can drive but I suggest taking the "teleferico de Guimares" at a cost of 2.30 - 4.60 euro return. The ride is great and gives a good over view of the area. Park has...More

We went up by cable car (good experience) on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Good views and an interesting landscape, but it was difficult to get away from people and from cars trying to find somewhere to park.

Despite being in Guimsraes for 3 days we would not have visited Penha if it had not been strongly recommended by a friend who lives in Portugal. We found surprisingly little local information promoting the sight. We were delighted with our visit. Penha can be...More

Beautiful building and a spectacular view all the way to Spain. There are small chapels off the beaten bath. Take some time to explore

Nice park and lovely church at the top of the mountain. Accessible by car or cable car. The cable car ride from the town is really nice. The views from the top are breathtaking. A must see when in Guimaraes.

About a 5 min uphill drive from Guimaraes. Couldn't believe how many people were here and how many facilities there were. Apart from the sanctuary and the boulders, there are market stalls, cafes and restaurants, a tourist train, grottos, mini golf and plenty of spaces...More

This park is simply stunning. The huge rocks in the park are the largest in Portugal. They added small paths among the rocks which make walking there a lively and cute experience. More than highly recommended!!

This park is full of hidden little religious places. The main church is obvious, but there are other little sanctuaries as well. I've visited the place twice in 2017, once in July, and once in November. The weather is always pretty windy, so do dress...More

Definetly go there!! Take the cable car (use Google Maps to find the cable car station, it is a bit hidden but close to the historical center, though, not inside it) and go to Penha!! It is beautiful, the immense rocks covered in green, they...More

You can drive to the top of the mountain or take a cable car. The top of the mountain is covered with huge granite boulders covered with emerald green moss. It is a very beautiful and simple place barely touched by development. There a few...More

We went up at sunset in midwinter, so didn't have time for a long walk. It's a curious and slightly spooky place, with boulders, trees and shady paths and we could imagine how busy it would be in summer with picnics and walkers. It doesn't...More
