the city of Guimaraes is very well preserved the center as such pretty crowded with tourists but even the streets outside of the inner perimeter are worth walking thru and enjoying this special and peculiar archtitecture

Historical town, maybe overrated. I mean, the center is nice and well cared for the palaces and churches with the streets very clean and tidy but don't worry if you miss it. More, the castle is not significant, the tickets for visiting it and the...More

The original fortress is okay, but the castle a few hundred feet away was very interesting. Lots of history.

The streets of the old town are charming, mainly narrow and cobbled with interesting variety of buildings. There are plenty of small restaurants to choose from and several historic buildings to explore.

Terrible to park the car. The visit to the Castle was a disappointment as opposed to the visit to the Paço dos Duques de Bragança which was spectacular.

We spent the day in Guimarães. The old town is worth a visit. It's clean and walking through the small streets, visiting the shops with local arts, trying the pastries.... Then the castle. Super day!

Very compact old quarter that takes only a couple hours to walk around. We came very late in the day and stayed overnight to experience that. Nice squares for dining outside. Very relaxed feel.
