Near Lisbon and Setubal. Amazing view over Lisbon / Setúbal area. Good place to stay (Pousada) and a small restaurant (Taverna Bobo da Corte)

Awoke to rain and the hills shrouded in misty clouds. But ya know, the road beckons. Stopped in Palmela to prowl the castle and found a taberna inside ready to serve lunch. We had planned to eat lunch at the absolutely lovely Pousada next to...More

The castle sits high up above the town and has great views to Setubal and beyond. There has been a lot of work to provide more facilities and this is on going. Well worth a visit and the Taverna in the grounds

This is a castle built by the Moors and as most of them now the outer walls are well restored while there is not much to see inside. There is an archaeological area that you can visit. However the views from here of the surrounding...More

One can see forever from the parapets of this medieval castle. Lisbon harbour can be seen in the distance in one direction, Setubal and the estuary of the Rio Sado in the other.

We came to the castelo on a rainy Saturday to find a gap between the clouds--and I'm so glad we waited. Much of Portugal's "castelo" tourism is an on-your-own process, and it helps to appreciate the castles through the breadth of the country in order...More

Traveling to Palmela, you can visit the Castle. It is an touristic attraction and a hotel too. I just visited the touristical part, showing ancient parts of the castle, including one little chapel, in honor to Santiago De Compostela. There are amazing views, for free,...More

... Free to enter but no facilities. We even tried to find a coffee in the Pousada, but no service was available. The cafeteria at the top of the castle area was closed. The views from the top are excellent, and the church is interesting.

Castelo de Palmela is well preserved, however, not that interesting to visit. I'd say to go and visit if you're passing by on your way somewhere. It was also a pity that a lot of the places were shut (like the cafés, gift shops and...More

There is an ~30 free places parking lot just before you reach the castle to the left and is well indicated. You can also park just to the gates of the castle, there are several unmarked places. This information is accurate... More
