Overlooking the village is the impressive Obidos Castle. It is partly a hotel but mostly open to the public. Excellent viewpoints form the ramparts.

Worth visiting by walking on the ramparts to or from the castle. Also there are some areas accessed only through the possada so it is worth exploring inside. The rampart walk is wonderful although much of it has no railing or other barrier so it...More

We were lucky enough to stay just outside the castle walls, so got to see it close up. It does rather take the breath away in its sheer scale, dominating the region and suggesting that any previous medieval armies hoping to take it would have...More

The castle is now a guesthouse, but you can go to the restaurant or simply take pictures from outside. Óbidos is a medieval village surrounded by walls, that is 1 hour far from Lisboa by car or by bus. It's a charming city and if...More

Whilst we did not spend time in the Castle itself, the well preserved walls are a feature you cannot miss and well worth taking a walk of at least a part. We decided to avoid the very busy section close to the City entrance and...More

The best preserved walls and castle we have seen in Portugal so far. It is a true walled city with multiple stairways up to the top of the wall and a castle at the top end of the town. Next time we must book an...More

and be sure to mind where you step. As is typical of walled towns, uneven walking surfaces, lack of railings or barriers. Lovely views of countryside from above the walls and an interesting perspective peering down into the town. The palace has been converted to...More

The castle of Obidos has been converted into a luxurious hotel but from the exterior you would never know. The castle dates from the 12th century but the structures that tourist clamber over today date from the 14th century when the castle’s keep and impressive...More

This old city within the castle walls is fun to walk around. The castle itself is not really accessible unless you are a hotel guest. We did walk all around the city walls which was really worth the time and effort.

We stayed at Casa D’Obidos which was great, but the walled city wasn’t as exciting as we hoped. The wall has no railing so going along it was a bit frightening, especially when passing others (you almost had to hold on to each other). No...More

The castle is the main thing in Obidos, it will keep you busy for a few hours including walking the ram parts and exploring the walled town. The church inside the walls is also worth a visit.

HI Margie As you come from Lisbon the bus will leave you in the parking area specially designed for. As you are going a little bit backward you'll find the TOWN'S GATE (nicely decorated with ceramic tiles - azulejos). To... More
