It was a ton of fun to explore the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon. This is one of the oldest parts of Lisbon, and certainly retains its "old world" charm. The experience of walking past very old buildings, past shops and restaurants was really cool....More

Narrow , winding & hills streets. That describes much of Lisbon but Bairro Alto {Upper District] is right in the heart of Lisbon. Blue & WHite tiled buildings, lots of little squares or parks and lots of churches. Just a nice area to walk around...More

If you love to get lost in a city full of people, that's your area. Avoid the central roads and you will love it

We stayed in a air b&b in alfama, next to Barrio Alto. Beautiful area, lovely to walk the narrow streets and marvel at the ceramics on the houses and walls. Always felt safe, even at night.

This is a vibrant, neighbourhood with a fun vibe that is worth coming to see at night. Portugal is supposed to be the 3rd safest country in europe so don't feel unsafe when walking around.

Super cool neighborhood with many unique bars. At night people congregate on the streets, which are a bit hidden from the main street, so to find it just follow the music.

Bairro Alto is a wonderful part of Lisbon with lots to see and do. There are so many restaurants in the back streets, and in good weather sitting outside is fun.

Enjoy a cocktail, discover a jazz club, hit the dance
floor or simply grab a beer and catch up with your
friends in the street: Bairro Alto, Bica and Cais do
Sodré are the core of it all. Amazing rooftops,
restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries, museums and
theaters abound. Start off by admiring the river from
the Santa Catarina belvedere, have a cocktail at
PARK's rooftop bar, try a typical Portuguese steak, or
