Neighbourhood: Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

    It has to be done!
Having seen this place on Netflix Somebody Feed Phil, we always stop for a ginjinha when in Lisbon. They only serve ginjinha, a Portuguese berry liqueur, in shot glasses at a cost of around €1.20. There are tables outside to stand and enjoy your drink. A real Lisbon tradition!

    The best place for Ginga
I saw this on a YouTube channel and found it tucked away near Rossio Station. Go just one, have a glass of Ginga - a bargain at €1.50 - but watch out for the cherry stone in the alcohol-soaked fruit surprise! Unashamedly 'local' but it's what a holiday is all about!

Hidden gem for ginjha cherry liqueur
A hidden gem . Very small bar serving small batch ginjha. Barmen was very friendly and e1.50 for a shot was good value. You even got a cherry in the glass. Lots of bottle gifts to purchase.

Nice little Shop (or bar) with good Ginja.
We could use one as a digestive after our visit to Zé da Mouraria where we ate too much...

Cheap and cheerful, authentic, usually busy with locals and the best place to grab a quick sip of Ginjinha to perk you right up.

Our tour guide Joao brought us to the spot. We had learned about it from Somebody Feed Phil and wanted to make a stop. It was perfection!

Another historical Ginja bar. Once again, really no seating but they did have tables outside. This was my favorite tasting Ginja and I really enjoyed the cherries at the end again.

Oh my goodness, could have had many of these, the fresh cheery, the taste, amazing
A very tiny shop with the nicest of one man serving
The interior is so authentic and explains the process of the drink, even able to buy a bottle to take home
A must visit for one or maybe two!!

A great after dinner event. You walk into this tiny place with the sticky floor to a man at the counter who must pour a thousand of these sweet and boozy little shots a day (probably more). I am told that they are one of the rival families who claim fame to this ritual.
A must do if you can!
