Magnificent architecture, and a real sense of history. Get there early, only a limited number of people are allowed in at any given visit time and lines can get long. Be sure to visit the "academic prison" were recalcitrant students were locked away.

Definitely worth visiting one of the oldest libraries in the world. Much thought has gone into the building and maintaining such an amazing place. It is most important to have a guided tour that explains it in detail.

There aren't many libraries like this in the world and it was well worth the visit to say I have seen it! However, there is no tour, no commentary and its simply an opportunity to gaze at a fabulous collection of books, shelves and tables....More

Entry is limited to small groups at fixed times. The library was very dark with only very dimly lit ceiling. As photography is not allowed (and practically impossible in such dark), the place could offer at least some postcards.

A must visit, the library is one of the oldest in Europe and was the inspiration for the Uni in Harry Potter.

Their website is very confusing e misinformative. Since it is the main attraction of Coimbra, they should provide better support!

Don't miss this library with the old books if you visit Coimbra. It's a must-see. It's beautiful. You are on a timed entrance ticket and no photos allowed.

I really can't give you a sensible answer because I, for one, haven't been able to work out how it should be done. Having said that, I am convinced that the "authorities" think it is at this web page! put slash y8tckm26 on a... More
