This is a must-see when in São Miguel. It's easy to find with signs from the south-coast highway. There are several viewpoints by the west side of the lake, Pico da Barrossa and Miradouro Lagoa do Fogo are the most visited with much parking space....More

We have had changeable weather during our stay on Sao Miguel but, on the basis that one can experience rain, clouds, mist, wind and sun all in the space of an hour here, we headed up to Lagoa do Fogo anyway. The road up is...More

Amazing view. One of the most beatiful places in São Miguel. It is a reserve with a stunning view. The lake has clean waters. There is a path to go down. It is not difficult to get down there. We could even see the fish.

A beautiful view of this crater lake. I highly recommend hiking down to the bottom. We did this from the lookout point. We went with our 1.5 and 3.5 year old, however, this was not easy. It was worth it at the bottom though, a...More

The lake is beautiful to see. View points along the road allow you to look down on the lake from a high elevation. Even on a partly cloudy day the lake color was beautiful deep blue tending to a light clear green in the shallows....More

There is a paved road going to the top of the hill overlooking the lake, but I really would not see it as a hiking area. You would want to take a vehicle to the top. Once there, you will find plenty of easy places to walk... More
