The awesome Walls of Évora!
Jan 2020
While visiting Évora, in the Portuguese region of Alentejo, it will be impossible to miss the ancient Walls! Nearly untouched after so many centuries ... The "Walls of Évora" are remnants of the Roman years in "Lusitânia", dating partially from the 1st century ... They were later rebuilt by Visigoths and Moors, until Portuguese King Dom Afonso IV, in the 15th century, ordered their enlargement, with the construction of new ramparts, towers and gates, setting the limits of the medieval town. As you will notice, with so many additions, it has characteristics from many different military architectural styles. If time is not a constraint, you can even try to walk the whole perimeter of the awesome "Walls of Évora"! Enjoy!

Walls Give History
Oct 2020
When you visit Évora, it is impossible not to see the walls and numerous gateways into the city. They give Évora great character and sense of history. It is possible to walk around the walls, a distance of about 4km, but there was so much to see in the city that I had no time to do this,

Worth A Walk
Oct 2019 • Couples
This is a sight to see. It is worth a walk through and around the walls. They look like they will be there for another 1000 years. Highly recommended.

Home in the Middle ages, good views
Oct 2019
Home in the Middle ages, good views. Clim the walls, forget the tv antennas, think about events happening many years ago and you get the feeling here!

Take the guided tour
Oct 2019
I know that many likes to do their own research ahead of time but we only have a couple of days it was money well invested to take the walking guided tour of Evora. Our guide was super knowledgeable and share so much information that if I had the time, I would have taken the tour again or even book a private tour so that I could ask more questions. The walls were part of the tour and made several reference to different portions of the wall, it's importance but from different angles (military, economic, social classes, functionality, orientation, etc.

Impressive city walls
Aug 2019
We were very impressed with the city walls of Evora. They completely surround the city with large entry areas. Tall and massive. A definite site to see. Amazing they are in such good condition as old as they are.

Truly lovely walled city and very easy to get around. Take the time to walk around the walks for several very good photo opportunities. There is much to see.

Walk the entire circuit!
May 2019 • Couples
Since we stayed for 3 days, we had time to explore and one day we literally walked just inside the wall in a circuit---well worth the time to enjoy the neighborhoods and buildings in this gem of a city.
