A museum rich in artefacts and information about the 1302 Flemish Battle of the Golden Spurs when the common men of West Flanders from Brugges, Ieper and Kortrijk combined at Kortrijk to rout the superior French knights and their army. Fascinating

Having been to school in England, I knew nothing at all about this rebellion. It's a fascinating story and gives greater understanding to how Belgium came to be divided by language. The museum is well laid out and well kept, although the information leaflets are...More

The battle of the Golden Spurs of 11 July 1302 became as important in the 19th and 20th century for Belgian Flemish identity as it was in the 14th century. This exhibition which is designed for visits by children as well as for serious history...More

New museum (and part of the town Information Centre ) totally dedicated to The Battle of the Golden Spurs 1302 and it's place in Flemish history. It is really only manageable with the audio guide as there is little in the way of information panels...More

It's at the information centre - there is a local sign missing and the information centre is not central. A lot of money has been spent on this building and presentation. It's focused on education and lacks historical artefacts, sometimes approaching indoctrination but you can...More

... not only on a rainy day. Dedicated to the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302, when an army of Flemish peasants beat the cream of France's knights and slaughtered most of them. The museum is very instructive but not as well-stocked in archaeological...More

Fantastic little museum, who doesn't like to know about medieval warfare and French defeats! Great exhibits even a little dressing up! I thought the audio guide was very good and the film at the end most informative. Quite difficult to find, there may have been...More

The people of Kortrijk are quite nice. We had trouble finding the museum of Kortrijk 1302. We asked a couple and they did their best to tell us in Flemish how to get there. They followed us and pointed at the museum when it was...More

This delightful museum, commemorating the eponymous early 14th century battle in which the Flems routed the pride of the French army, has superb, audio-visual support in the language of your choice. Situated in Kortrijk Centrum and competitively priced, it is well worth a visit.

There is very little to see in this museum, and the audio guide, which is rather necessary as there really is little to see, is long-winded and not particularly good. The museum tries to explain and analyse the reasons for the war between the count,...More
